Enhance your presence with Zoho Mail Free Tier and get a domain email
PSA: You should already have a custom domain - while Zoho does offer custom domains, I do recommend you get your domain from namecheap.com or other similar DNS providers. I like namecheap because they offer free for life Whois protection and private domain registration and pricing stays low compared to other options. Like many other companies, they also offer other hosted solutions, but I only use them for the domain services.

Quick Summary:

If you have a custom domain, you don't have to spend any more $ to get a custom domain email. Zoho Mail offers a Free Forever plan where you get:
- Email Hosting for 1 Custom Domain
- Up to 5 users, 5GB/user
- 25MB attachment limit
- Web and free mobile app
This is a great option to elevate your presence with a domain email and if you are in need of more features, you can pay as little as $1/mo or $4/mo for their premium tier.

Let's get Into It
I'd been using a couple of other Zoho free tier apps already and when I decided to get a custom domain email, I had to review Zoho Mail. I signed up and have been using it for a couple of months now.
Just like any other email hosting provider, they will have their own mailbox. Thing Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc. While they may have their own unique look, they essentially do the same thing - Email Communication.
HOW I USE IT
I'm currently using the free forever tier of Zoho Mail and utilize the following custom domain emails:
- hello@plantitalabs.com
- support@plantitalabs.com
- nancy@plantitalabs.com
This allows me to organize my communication, giving me different "boxes."
hello@plantitalabs.com is the email I use for marketing and any general inquiries. It's my primary customer facing email.
support@plantitalabs.com is what I use with current clients.
I'll also use this email whenever I need user access to any of my client's tools.
nancy@plantitalabs.com is my personal email within Plantita Labs.
This is used for conversations that don't fall under the hello or support usage - clients or vendors know they are speaking directly to me.
Mobile Application
I do currently use the mobile application for Zoho Meetings. I enjoy having this available at my fingertips and keeps me updated in real time. I haven't experienced any issues with the mobile app.
FEATURES I LOVE
Free Domain Email
Yeah I really love that feature. There are plenty of other low cost and affordable domain email options out there, but why should I even give them $1/mo for something I can get for $0/mo?
5 Users within Free Tier
I don't have a need for a second user, let alone 5 - but it's great to know that I can easily add another use when my business needs enable me to hire someone.
If you're a small business with 5 or less total user needs, the free tier is a great option.
GB & Attachments
I love the flexibility with GB usage and attachment needs. It's easy to go over the GB limit, but keeping mailboxes clean and updated can help with that. In the event that you need more GBs or need to send larger attachments, you can easily upgrade to $1.25 for 10GB per user and 250MB attachments or $4 for 50GB per user and 1BG attachments
$1/mo tier upgrade
Definitely like the cost of increase in case I need to upgrade.
For as little as $1/mo, you get more features like:
- Domain Aliases
- Email Routing
- Collaboration tools
- Calander Sync
- & More
Check out all of their features and price points here.
LIMITATIONS
*IMAP/ POP/ Active Sync
not included in the free plan
Set Up Knowledge
It's helpful if you know a bit about domains and dns, but if you don't, that's okay! Zoho has tutorials on how to set up email domain or you can reach out to us for help.
I haven't come across any limitations that affect my business use case.
RECOMMENDED?
Absolutely recommend Zoho Mail if you are thinking about or searching for a custom domain email. Get your domain from namecheap.com or another provider, connect the domain, and start using your new email address.
I'll update this blog if I find another app that better suits me.
